Michelle Wilson has been in our WIW community for many years. In fact, she has even started bringing her daughter Maddie to events as well! It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to this remarkable woman . . .
Recently we had a little girl talk with Michelle and this is what she said:
What do you do for a living?
I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned from my own struggles! After 20 years in the psychology field, I am still growing and learning what helps me with self-care and getting past my unconscious blocks. My focus had been on my specialty as a therapist for adolescent girls and women with anxiety and eating disorders, but I now also love working with professional women to help them get past limiting beliefs and self-sabotage. I believe this is so important for women to be able to make the difference they are meant to make in the world!
Why were you drawn to WIW?
It was highly recommended by two fabulous women (Ann Fafard and Jamie Willett) who were surprised I hadn’t heard of the wonderful Leslie Sturgeon yet! We met at another member’s event: Alicia Forest’s OBBW. 🙂
What is your favorite quote?
Oh, hard to choose! But today I’ll go with a Bible verse that I’ve loved since I was young: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
What is a recent book you read?
“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo which was very inspirational! I am going through my things and asking if they “spark” joy and if not, I am letting them go with gratitude. Lovely idea and more challenging than it sounds! The other book I”m reading: “Spy School” out loud with my 11 year old son, Alex.
Who is your celebrity crush?
At the moment Wayne Brady because he makes me laugh! My kids say I have a crush on him because I really want to see him live in Kinky Boots while he is on Broadway. Or Lin Manuel-Miranda who wrote and stars in Hamilton which is my new obsession – he is a genius and so enthusiastic and passionate about his work which is contagious. My kids got me into musical theater just in the last few years!
What is the best advice you ever received?
Be yourself. As simple as that sounds, authenticity is so powerful. It is a lesson I have to keep learning over and over in my life.
What is your best memory of WIW?
Bringing my 13 year old daughter, Madeleine to the NH Conference for Women. She was so warmly welcomed by the tribe! I wanted to have her see the power and support of other women (and to see me speak) in 2014 and then when I brought her this past fall she saw Jack Canfield speak! She wrote down her big dream (to star in a musical) and now is preparing to be Alice in Alice in Wonderland this month! Plus she started a new business after being inspired by Diane Fogarty with Ava Anderson Non Toxic and her first project was to do a fundraiser for a family in need. I am so proud of her and all the amazing support Leslie and the WIW women continue to offer!
What would we be surprised to know?
That I am moving to the Denver, CO area this summer! I will miss this “tribe” greatly and look forward to staying in touch. The last chance to hear me speak in New England will be the WIW event April 13th (thank you Leslie) and I love to share lots of techniques you can use right away. Plus I am working by Skype and FaceTime now so I can work with anyone anywhere. 🙂
My guilty pleasure is…
Breyers chocolate caramel gelato (unbelievably delicious and rich!) and Grey’s Anatomy.
