Carolyn Keddell is one of our earliest members and biggest cheerleaders. You will often see her hosting a large table of “new recruits” or serving as a WIW Ambassador greeting women when they arrive for events. She loves meeting new people and has an infectious personality – not to mention an endless enthusiasm for WIW. It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to this remarkable woman . . .
Recently we sat down for a little girl talk with Carolyn and this is what she said:
What do you do for a living?
I am an investment adviser representative and a financial planner for Pension Professionals. www.valueofadvice.com. I take into account a client’s core values as well as his or her life purpose, while achieving financial well-being. I specialize in pre-retirement and retirement income financial strategies.
Why were you drawn to WIW?
I was drawn to WIW in January 2007, when I was lucky enough to be seated at a table at the Portsmouth Sheraton with Leslie Sturgeon. While listening to a presentation about a national women’s networking organization, Leslie said to me that she envisioned starting a group that encouraged building relationships and offered multiple opportunities, both daytime and evening, to meet, learn, and grow. I was hooked. This notion was so different from the BNI/Rotary networking business models and it appealed to me. WIW launched in May 2007 and look how far it has come! Bravo Leslie!
What is your favorite quote?
“Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” (Margaret Mead)
What is a recent book you read?
“George Washington’s Secret 6 – the spy ring that saved the American Revolution.”
What is your best memory of WIW?
I have so many wonderful WIW memories but my favorite is the Pajama Party at the Margate in Laconia. Just watching all of us show up in our jammies was a hoot! The evening was so much fun, with all the personal care providers at various stations around the huge first floor space, the music, the food, the bar (!!) , and the camaraderie were spectacular. I met many fun fascinating women that night, many whom I have become close friends with since. It was unforgettable!
What would we be surprised to know about you?
You might be surprised to know that I share a passion with my husband for fly fishing. We love to take off with our gear and explore rivers and lakes around northern New England.
The biggest lesson I have learned in life is…
The biggest lesson I have learned in life is to not postpone joy. My mother was part of Dave’s and my wedding. 11 months later, she died suddenly. So many of her friends told me afterwards that our wedding festivities gave Mom great joy and happiness. I was grateful to have given her that gift.
My guilty pleasure is…
I have so many guilty pleasures…going to a movie matinee on a weekday is high up on that list!
